Kaitautoko is a term that comes from the Māori language, which is the language of the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand. In Māori, "kaitautoko" means "supporter" or "advocate." It refers to someone who provides assistance, encouragement, or advocacy for a particular cause, individual, or group.

In the Māori culture, the concept of kaitautoko is deeply rooted. It embodies the idea of collective responsibility and caring for one another. Kaitautoko can take many forms, such as providing guidance, offering practical help, or standing up for someone's rights. It can also extend to supporting and preserving cultural traditions and values.

The term kaitautoko reflects the importance of community and interconnectedness in Māori society. It highlights the idea that individuals have a role to play in supporting and uplifting others. This concept can be found in various aspects of Māori life, including family structures, education, and activism.
